Udyam Aadhar vs Udyog Aadhaar

Many people search for “Udyam Aadhar,” but the official name is Udyam Registration. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) on 1 July 2020. If you still hold only a UAM, you need to register again on the Udyam portal.

What Documents and Details Do You Need for New Udyam Aadhar Registration?

You don’t upload anything. But the portal checks your details against government databases, so keep these ready:

  • Aadhaar number of the proprietor, managing partner, Karta (HUF), director or authorised signatory
  • Mobile number linked to that Aadhaar (the OTP goes here)
  • PAN of the enterprise (the owner’s PAN for proprietorships)
  • GSTIN, only if GST registration applies to your business
  • Bank account number and IFSC code
  • NIC code(s) matching your business activity
  • Business address (plant or unit, and official address)
  • Previous year’s investment and turnover (the portal pulls much of this from your ITR and GST data)
  • Active email ID, where your certificate will arrive

Don’t have a GST number? If the law doesn’t require GST registration for your business, leave that field blank. You can still register.

Step-by-Step New Udyam Registration Process on the Official Portal

Check out the step by step guidance for how you can apply for Udyam Aadhar registration in India:

Step 1: Open the Official Portal

Type udyamregistration.gov.in directly into your browser. Look for the “.gov.in” ending. Many look-alike sites charge fees for what is a free service.

Step 2: Verify Your Aadhaar

Click the new-registration option. Enter your Aadhaar number and your name exactly as printed on the card. Click “Validate & Generate OTP” and enter the 6-digit code sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

Step 3: Validate PAN and Pick Organisation Type

Choose your type: proprietorship, partnership, LLP, private limited, HUF, cooperative, society or trust. Enter your PAN and click validate. The portal checks it against Income Tax records and fetches your ITR details.

Step 4: Fill in Enterprise Details

Add your mobile number, email, social category (General, OBC, SC or ST), gender, and whether the owner is specially abled. Then enter your business name. If you run multiple units, add each unit’s name.

Step 5: Add Address and Bank Details

Enter the full plant or unit address, then your official address. Click “Add Unit” after each location. Add your bank name, account number and IFSC. This matters for subsidy transfers later.

Step 6: Choose Your Activity and NIC Codes

Select Manufacturing or Services. Search for your business type and pick the 2-digit, 4-digit and 5-digit NIC codes. You can add more than one code. Your primary code should reflect where most of your income comes from.

Step 7: Declare Employees, Investment and Turnover

Enter the number of male, female and other employees. For plant and machinery investment, the portal often auto-fills from your ITR. A brand-new business can enter the actual equipment cost or zero. Turnover excludes exports.

Step 8: Submit and Save Your URN

Enter the final OTP and captcha, then click “Final Submit.” Your Udyam Registration Number appears on screen. Screenshot it and save it.

How to Download Your Udyam Certificate?

The certificate is usually available quickly. In some cases, it takes a few working days while the system verifies data against GST and Income Tax records.

  1. Go to the portal and open the Print/Verify menu
  2. Select Print Udyam Certificate
  3. Enter your URN and registered mobile number
  4. Choose OTP by mobile or email, then click Validate & Generate OTP
  5. Enter the OTP and download the PDF

Lost it? Just repeat these steps. There’s no reapplication and no fee. The certificate also shows your URN, business name, MSME category, address, NIC codes and issue date, plus a QR code for instant verification.

Who Is Eligible for Udyam Registration? (MSME Limits 2026)

Any manufacturing or service business that fits the MSME limits can register. That includes proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs, companies, HUFs, cooperatives, societies and trusts.

The revised limits, effective 1 April 2025, use both investment and turnover:

CategoryInvestment in Plant & Machinery/EquipmentAnnual Turnover
MicroUp to ₹2.5 croreUp to ₹10 crore
SmallUp to ₹25 croreUp to ₹100 crore
MediumUp to ₹125 croreUp to ₹500 crore

Rules that trip people up:

  • Exports are excluded from turnover.
  • Classification is by PAN, not location. All GSTINs under one PAN count as one enterprise.
  • One registration per enterprise. You can add multiple units and activities under one URN, but you can’t register the same enterprise twice.
  • Traders can register. Retail and wholesale businesses qualify, but benefits are mainly limited to Priority Sector Lending.
  • Moving up is automatic if you cross a limit. Moving down happens only when you fall below the ceiling on both measures.

No PAN or GST? Try the Udyam Assist Platform

Think of a roadside tailor, a small kirana or a home-based food seller. For such informal micro enterprises, the Ministry runs the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP). Verified data is submitted through authorised partners, and the business gets a Udyam Assist Certificate. It is a different pathway from standard Udyam Registration, so check which one a scheme or lender accepts.

What Are the Benefits of Udyam Registration?

Registration is voluntary, but it opens real doors. Each benefit has its own conditions, so treat the certificate as a key, not a guarantee.

  • Priority Sector Lending: Banks treat you as an MSME borrower. Rates, collateral and approval remain the lender’s call.
  • Collateral-free credit: Eligible micro and small units may use government credit guarantee schemes such as CGTMSE.
  • Tenders and procurement: Registration helps with government tenders, including possible tender-fee or EMD exemptions and GeM onboarding.
  • Delayed-payment protection: Buyers must pay micro and small suppliers within 45 days under the MSMED Act. Under Section 43B(h) of the Income Tax Act, buyers can claim the expense deduction only when they actually pay inside the time limit. Disputes can go to the MSME Samadhaan portal or the Micro and Small Enterprise Facilitation Council (MSEFC).
  • Invoice financing: Eligible MSMEs can discount invoices through TReDS.
  • Subsidies and reimbursements: Possible reimbursement of ISO certification and patent or trademark costs, and lower electricity tariffs in some states.
  • Micro Enterprise Credit Card: Budget 2025-26 announced a credit card of up to ₹5 lakh for Udyam-registered micro enterprises. (Verify current details at the official portal or with your bank.)

Is it mandatory? No. But without it, you miss most of the above.

Common Udyam Registration Mistakes and Fake Websites to Avoid

  • Aadhaar OTP fails. Usually the mobile number isn’t linked to Aadhaar, or the name doesn’t match exactly. Update Aadhaar first.
  • Wrong PAN or GSTIN. Cross-check with your tax documents. No GST liability? Leave GSTIN blank.
  • Wrong NIC code. This can block scheme eligibility. Map codes to your real income sources.
  • Duplicate applications. Co-owners sometimes apply separately under one PAN. Coordinate first.
  • Paying an agent. The ministry says no private agency is authorised to do Udyam registration. Government registration costs ₹0.
  • Portal glitches. If the site is slow or down for upgrades, wait and retry. Don’t pay “express” fees.

So, to avoid all these mistakes you can simply get use a call or apply the New Registration of Udyam Aadhar via mentioned link below:

What Happens After You Register?

  • Validity: The certificate never expires and needs no renewal.
  • Annual updates: Update investment, turnover and export details with your ITR and GST data each financial year. Skipping this can affect your MSME status and benefits.
  • Editing details: Most fields can be changed. Aadhaar number, name per Aadhaar, PAN, name per PAN, the state and district of the official address, and incorporation or commencement dates cannot.
  • Law change: The MSMED (Amendment) Act, 2026 gives the Udyam portal statutory permanence, adds investment and turnover as twin classification criteria in the Act, and introduces online dispute resolution and graded civil penalties instead of conviction-based ones. Existing certificates stay valid. (Verify current details at udyamregistration.gov.in.)
